Earthlink Using National Notification Network For Emergency Employee Notifications

3n Mass Notification System Used To Enhance Communications During Weather Emergencies, Urgent Office Situations

Glendale, Calif. --[EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION NEWS]-- December 13, 2004 - National Notification Network (3n), a provider of mass notification systems, announced today that Earthlink (Nasdaq: ELNK), one of the nation's leading Internet service providers, is using the 3n Mass Notification System to deliver important information to employees in emergency situations.

Earthlink uses the 3n system for several groups within various departments of the company. The system was deployed in late summer at the company's headquarters in Atlanta, Ga., as an enhancement to the existing disaster recovery communication system to notify employees of a power outage affiliated with Hurricane Jeanne. The 3n system rapidly disseminated a message containing news of the hurricane and action instructions to more than 126 employees via their delivery preference and then generated a report that confirmed receipt of the information.

"Regular use of the system in many different capacities has enabled Earthlink to realize the added benefits of having automated communication links available anytime across departments. The system was particularly useful during the hurricane as it rapidly and reliably communicated vital information to our employees at a moment's notice," said Karen Abrams, director of operations risk management, Earthlink.

Based on instructions from Earthlink administrators, 3n uploads groups of contacts and notifies them of any situation requiring quick and secure dissemination of information. The message is relayed to modes of communication used by Earthlink recipients, including phone (home, work, cell), email, pager, fax and wireless devices such as laptops, PDAs and BlackBerries®.

National Notification Network Provides System to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Emergency Notification System to be Used During Excavation of Army Chemical Site in Washington DC

Glendale, Calif. --[EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION NEWS]-- October 25, 2004 - National Notification Network (3n), a provider of mass notification systems, announced today that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has contracted the company to provide an emergency notification system for use during an excavation project in Washington, DC to remove potential World War I-era chemical warfare materials.

In 2003, one glass bottle containing Lewisite, a blistering agent tested by the Army from 1917-1920, was discovered at the site. As a result, the Corps of Engineers returned to the site in June using extra engineering controls and safety measures to protect the public from potential release. The project is scheduled to take 10-12 months to complete.

In the event of an emergency at the site, the Corps will use the 3n system in tandem with an onsite siren to notify residents and American University personnel living or working within 194 feet of the site that they should immediately shelter-in-place. The 3n system will also be used to notify key Department of the Army personnel, the Washington, DC City Council, emergency responders and emergency management personnel. In an emergency, the 3n system will distribute a pre-recorded voice message and pre-prepared text message to all phone numbers and email addresses in its database. The messages will instruct residents to stay indoors to minimize their potential exposure, in addition to instructing the appropriate agencies that their emergency response procedures should be initiated.

Florida Retirement Community Utilizes Emergency Notification System Warn Residents of Impending Hurricanes

GLENDALE, Calif. --[EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION NEWS]-- September 13, 2004 - National Notification Network (3n), a provider of mass notification systems, today announced that the Buena Vida Estates Retirement Community has implemented and is utilizing the company's flagship product. The Melbourne, Florida retirement community used the system to alert its residents of the imminent approach of Hurricane Charley in August.

Using delivery preferences requested by Buena Vida residents, the 3n system rapidly disseminated messages containing news of the hurricane and action instructions to all 150 homeowners. All messages were tracked and delivered, and more than 75 percent of the residents confirmed receipt using their phones' touch-tone systems.

Though residents ultimately were not affected by the hurricane, having a tool in place for safe, quick evacuations was a relief for Ralph Bishop, the community's executive director. "The 3n system is delivering in our time of need. It quickly and efficiently communicates potentially life-saving information. We are relieved to have a reliable system to assist us during emergencies," he said.

Bishop has upgraded his package after only a few months of use because of the system's demonstrated value. "We have been using the 3n system more than we originally anticipated, especially for urgent messages in non-emergency situations, including alarm testing, electricity loss after storms and other routine issues such as voting," he said.

ImpactWeather, Inc. Chooses MIR3 Platform to Power Weather Alert Services

Automated voice message from ImpactWeather alerted more than 650 customers five days prior to Hurricane Charley

San Diego, California --[EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION NEWS]-- August 31, 2004 – MIR3, the technology leader in Intelligent Notification™ solutions, today announced that ImpactWeather, Inc., a Houston-based provider of weather forecasting services, has chosen and deployed MIR3’s Intelligent Notification to automate the process of severe weather alert notification. ImpactWeather is utilizing MIR3 Intelligent Notification to notify customers located throughout Texas and the Southeast in the petroleum, manufacturing, energy and utility industries, as well as government agencies and school districts, about pending weather conditions that could adversely impact business continuity or jeopardize personal safety.

ImpactWeather provides a variety of weather forecasting, alert, monitoring and notification services available 24/7. The company relies on the latest software, hardware and scientific technologies to produce accurate, timely and personalized forecasts. Key to the company’s success is its ability to provide weather information to its customers in a timely manner, whether it be via land line or mobile phones, email, wireless text messaging or fax.
According to Mike Gauthier, VP of Business Development at ImpactWeather, it made perfect sense to adopt the latest in intelligent notification technology from MIR3 to automate communications to its customer base.

“Prior to deploying MIR3 we had a team of meteorologists making phone calls to each customer personally to deliver weather alerts,” said Gauthier. “This was very time consuming and definitely not the best use of employee time. By automating the notification delivery process we are now able to send out hundreds of alerts to any device, whether it be to a phone or wireless device, such as pagers and PDAs, within just minutes. We were recently able to send out hundreds of messages notifying our customers on the severity of Hurricane Charley in advance. No other technology would allow us to send automated messages, with our meteorologist’s voice, so quickly. "

Furthermore, Gauthier adds, “For some of our customers, such as oil refineries that take days to shut down, time is of the essence. If we had used the phone to calls to initiate the same Hurricane Charley alert it would have take taken one full
working day to make sure our customers were properly notified. Giving our
customers more time to react and prepare for such natural disasters helps
reduce the potential for loss of life, minimize property damage and get a jump on disaster recovery efforts.”

Gauthier estimates that ImpactWeather will soon complete integration between the company’s GIS tracking system and MIR3’s Intelligent Notification. This will allow ImpactWeather to notify corporate and residential customers in a designated geographic area as soon as severe weather information is available. The integration between GIS and MIR3’s Intelligent Notification will further advance the weather forecasting industry by increasing its overall efficiency through automation of alert triggers.

“ImpactWeather is truly an ideal partner in that the application showcases how intelligent notification can add value to time-urgent services and provide immediate ROI benefits,” said Margi Schmidt, MIR3’s Vice President of Business Development. “ImpactWeather sought out MIR3 to provide an intelligent notification platform that is not only fast, efficient and reliable, but one that is easy to use and includes reporting capabilities that allows the company to successfully track the receipt of highly urgent communications.”
