Earthlink Using National Notification Network For Emergency Employee Notifications

3n Mass Notification System Used To Enhance Communications During Weather Emergencies, Urgent Office Situations

Glendale, Calif. --[EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION NEWS]-- December 13, 2004 - National Notification Network (3n), a provider of mass notification systems, announced today that Earthlink (Nasdaq: ELNK), one of the nation's leading Internet service providers, is using the 3n Mass Notification System to deliver important information to employees in emergency situations.

Earthlink uses the 3n system for several groups within various departments of the company. The system was deployed in late summer at the company's headquarters in Atlanta, Ga., as an enhancement to the existing disaster recovery communication system to notify employees of a power outage affiliated with Hurricane Jeanne. The 3n system rapidly disseminated a message containing news of the hurricane and action instructions to more than 126 employees via their delivery preference and then generated a report that confirmed receipt of the information.

"Regular use of the system in many different capacities has enabled Earthlink to realize the added benefits of having automated communication links available anytime across departments. The system was particularly useful during the hurricane as it rapidly and reliably communicated vital information to our employees at a moment's notice," said Karen Abrams, director of operations risk management, Earthlink.

Based on instructions from Earthlink administrators, 3n uploads groups of contacts and notifies them of any situation requiring quick and secure dissemination of information. The message is relayed to modes of communication used by Earthlink recipients, including phone (home, work, cell), email, pager, fax and wireless devices such as laptops, PDAs and BlackBerries®.
